I love to draw on a completely white mat drawing paper. I think i use a thick one
Before i start on a portrait I draw a 2cm-grid. Then I draw the all outlines (not so thick because it might be difficult to erase them later) and then begin with real drawing. Mostly i begin with eyes (i dont know why). Maybe because the eyes my orientation for the whole face.
I use the 0,5cm 2B mechanical pencil almost for "everything". Especially drawing eyes, hair.. I found it good for drawing black/dark areas. For light shadows i use a soft brush, for example drawing light shadows on eyelids, skin tone... I just dip the brush into graphite powder and blend with it. To blend darker areas i use a harsh brush or a cotton pad.
If your want to make the eyes have a "sparkle" - draw a small round spot into the pupil which should be perfectly white. Then make the whole face have a little skin tone almost without white spots (and probably the background too).
Btw, its good to use kneaded eraser to remove graphite in the small parts like eyes, lips etc..
Another tip is, to avoid harsh lines. Even if you see it is harsh on the reference photo - if u look closely you will find it is not (like face outline, lips, wrinkles, or the mouth angle). I use a blending stick or a harsh brush to blend harsh lines.
For drawing hair, lashes, eyebrows i use a HB or 2B mech. pencil, depends on color - if it should be darker or lighter. When you draw blond hair its better to let some hair strands white, because its difficult to erase graphite afterwards. I also use a blending stick or harsh brush for blending hair ( it looks smoother and more natural). And i use a eraser pencil for erasing some spots in hair
And maybe the last and important drawing tip is to give much attention to dark and light areas. And to see all the details (which are able to see) on the ref. photo.
I think thats it for a moment, i cant remember anything else...
And i hope you understand my english
I want to thank everyone for visiting my gallery, commenting to my work and in generall and for fav's!!!!!! I read each of them !!! Thank you
